London based artist, Joanna Gilbert is currently studying an MAFA at Chelsea College of Art. She uses spray paint and mixed media to express a reflective internalisation of images gained from the observation of street art and environments.

Colourful, vibrant abstract works are created in a calculated yet spontaneous process. This blend of controlled and uncontrolled is translated as an intuitive response, represented on canvas in an energetic and exciting manner.

I see the environment as a gallery in its own right. Compositions, texture and text strike a chord with me and allow me to create abstract interpretations of the world through the complexity of shapes, colour and language.

Joanna Gilbert has shown with the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolors at the Mall Gallery and her work has been shortlisted for the SWA and Ashurst Emerging Artist Prize. She has recently completed a dynamic colourful reflective sculpture for the Walkie Talkie building at 20 Fenchurch St in London.

Her work is on show within various corporate offices and she will be starting a Masters in Fine Art at Chelsea Collage of Arts from October 2017.
