Work by Joanna Gilbert, has been selected from over 900 entries worldwide to appear alongside paintings by some of Britain’s leading watercolourists in the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours exhibition at Mall Galleries, London, between 6 and 16 April 2016.
The Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours (RI) hold an open submission exhibition in Central London each year. Founded in 1831, the RI was established to exhibit the best contemporary watercolours, showing a diversity of styles and techniques, from traditional uses of the medium to the more experimental and innovative paintings.
‘Shard Abstracted’ by Joanna Gilbert explores the architectural landscape through the use of ink, acrylic and spray paint. The use of reflection, shards of glass, diagonals and composition allow architects to create art within a building. Joanna takes these buildings, these lines, these angles and then turns them into paintings.
