Studies on Paper with SprayPaint

January 4, 2016 - jo-admin - Uncategorized

Learning from Josef Albers studies on colour, I have been creating a number of works on paper with marker pen and spray paint. Interesting to see the difference colour and translucency plays on depth of space. I imagine them all to be on show as a spectrum of colours and explorations when complete. I start each study with marker pen, then added shards of block colour spray paint and gradients either along side the marker pen, or conflicting against it. Building up in layers layers, I then started to add complimentary and opposite colours to really enhance the depth. This understanding of which colour comes to the foreground or the background allows me to use this knowledge in future works.
