RETROSPECTIVE
6th - 30th October at Avivson Gallery, Highgate.
Private View 7th October, 5 - 7.30pm
During the month of October a number of my works from 2012 - 2019 will be on show at Avivson Gallery, Highgate. Many works have been displayed in offices around London, but some have never been shown before.
I began by seeking inspiration from iconic architecture and cityscapes.
My first works were of constructivist nature, I was greatly inspired by Zaha Hadid. I was fascinated with angles, perspective and reflection. I visited rooftops, skyscrapers and enjoyed looking in wonder at London from a birds eye view.
I moved from gazing at entire buildings and skylines at sunset to documenting the ever evolving conversation between street artists on the backdrop of decayed walls; under the arches of tunnels and across doors and hoardings.
After a trip to Miami Art Basel my work was greatly influenced by Bauhaus architecture, seascapes and of course neon. The reggaeton music I heard blaring throughout Miami became the music I listened to whilst painting and my work stopped being rigid and controlled and become free and expressive.
Music then became an integral part of my painting process. Having dabbled in music production and since working for a record label, I understood layering of music and wondered what would happen if I layered the sounds on my canvas. A trip to a Goldfrapp concert allowed me to experiment with the idea of the human experience and how I could represent that through art.
I started looking at people as an organism, as a movement, how we are part of something bigger and what connects us.
I got curious about derelict spaces and how, over time they changed and evolved into new beginnings, new opportunities, new starts. I thought about all the people in these spaces, their hopes and vision. The natural evolution of business and consumerism.
Progression has always been a part of me and my practice. I noticed that each series of work opens the door to the next. My love for colour and composition stayed constant.
Join me for an exciting opportunity to see my early works during October!
I hope to see you at the private view on 7th between 5:30 - 7:30.
